Terms of Use and Disclaimer

Last updated 6 October 2026

By using the HK Interest Calc (the “Calculator”), including its interest, mortgage, present value (PV) and inflation calculators, their results and their PDF, Word and Excel exports, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. Not legal, financial or professional advice

The Calculator is a general arithmetic tool. Nothing it shows or exports is legal, financial, investment, tax, accounting or mortgage advice, or an offer of credit. It does not know the facts of your matter. Whether interest is payable, from and to which dates, at what rate and on what basis depends on your contract, any court order and the applicable law. Consult a qualified professional before relying on any figure.

2. Check results before relying on them

Results depend entirely on the inputs and settings you choose (dates, amounts, rate source, spread, day count basis and other options). You are responsible for checking every result, and every exported document, before using it, including in correspondence, court documents, statements of claim, demands or financial decisions. Mortgage figures are estimates; your lender’s figures prevail. Present value, internal rate of return, time value of money and inflation figures depend on the rates, compounding, timing and index periods you choose; they are estimates, not quotes, valuations or forecasts.

3. Rate and price data

Interest rates and the Consumer Price Index are collected automatically from public sources, including the HK Judiciary, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), The Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB), The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) and the US Federal Reserve. Collection may be delayed, may fail, or may be wrong, and historical figures may be incomplete. The original publisher’s figures always prevail. The Calculator is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of these organisations; their names are used only to identify the source of the data, and any trade marks belong to their owners.

4. No warranty

The Calculator is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It may change, be unavailable or be withdrawn at any time without notice.

5. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for any loss or damage, direct, indirect or consequential, including loss of money, profit, claims, costs or data, arising from use of or reliance on the Calculator, its results, its exports or its rate data, however caused. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

6. Your data

Calculations run in your browser, and the Calculator does not upload the figures you enter. A calculation’s shareable link contains its inputs in the web address, so anyone you send it to can see them, and the hosting provider may record page addresses in its logs. Saved calculations are kept in your browser’s local storage only, and clearing your browser data removes them.

7. Source code

The source code is published on GitHub under the MIT License. That licence governs use of the code; these terms govern use of this website.

8. Changes and governing law

These terms may be updated at any time by changing this page; continued use means you accept the current version. These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the courts of Hong Kong have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
